Descendants of John Garrard (Gerrad)

Our Garrard lineage starts with John(1) Garrard who was born ca 151x at Nayland, Suffolk, which is located about six miles north northwest of Colchester, Essex, and died 22 March 1577 at Nayland. John (1) married, ca 153x at the Church of Saint James, Nayland, (–) unknown. The only known child of John(1) Garrard is son John (2) to come.

John (2) Garrard was born ca 153x and died 25 November 1601, both at Nayland. John (2) married, ca 155x at Nayland, Jane (–) who was born ca 153x and died 26 January 1599, both at Nayland. Her ancestry is unknown. John (2) and Jane (–) Garrard had five children, i.e., four sons and one daughter. Son William was bp 24 June 1560 and was buried 23 September 1564. Son Thomas bp 14 March 1562 to come. Son George, bp 14 March 1562, was a twin to son Thomas, and was buried, “as a householder” on 20 January 1610. Son George was married and had three daughters, i.e.,Mary bp 24 January 1602, Dorothy bp 05 January 1604, and Joan bp 27 April 1609. The fourth son of John and Jane (–) Garrard was Nicholas who was born ca 1564-1568 and was buried 16 May 1617. Nicholas married, ca 1590, Frances (–) who was born ca 156x and died testate in 1634 with her will being proved 10 September 1634 wherein she mentions two of her daughters and a number of her grandchildren. John (2) and Jane (–) Garrard had one daughter, Margaret who was buried 02 November 1573.

Thomas Garrard, the second child and second son of John(2) and Jane (–) Garrad, was bp on 14 March 1562 at the Church of Saint James, Nayland and died prior to 31 January 1627 at Nayland. He married, on 10 June 1591 at Nayland, Christian Frenede who was born ca 156x/157x and died 31 January 1627, both at Nayland. Her ancestry is unknown. Thomas and Christian Frende Garrad had at least three children, i.e., Mary who was bp 26 December 1593 and was buried 22 April 1594, Thomas who was bp 21 December 1595 and was buried 27 June 1597, and Margaret to come.

Margaret Garrard, the only surviving child of Thomas and Christian Frende Garrard, was bp 05 December 1597 and was buried 04 August 1626, both at Nayland. Margaret married, 20 July 1617 at Nayland, Gregory Stone who was bp 19 April 1592 at Great Bromley, Essex and died 30 November 1672, aged 80, at Cambridge, Ma. who was the son of David and Ursula (–) Stone of Great Bromley, Essex which is located maybe ten miles or so southeast of Nayland. Gregory Stone married, as his second wife ca 1627 at perhaps Denham, Essex, widow Mrs. Lydia (–) Cooper who came with her husband Gregory and children to New England.
