Our earliest Eames ancestor might be one John Eames born ca 153x in the parish
of Fordington St. Georges, Dorchester, Dorset, England. John Eames died pr
1607 in Fordington. He married ca 155x, at Fordington St. George, Joan (–)
who was born, ca 153x, and died 07 June 1587, both at Fordington.

Thomas Eames, son of John and Joan (–) Eames, was born ca 155x and
died 25 June 1618, both at Fordington, St. George. He married, prior 1575
at Fordington, Millicent Brewster, who was born ca 155x and was buried on
23 May 1614, both at Fordington. Her parentage and ancestry is unknown. Little
is known of Thomas Eames and his family. Thomas and Milicent Brewster Eames
had five children born at Fordington St. George between 1575 and 1595. We
do know that son Richard, born ca 1590, married 05 June 1615 Alice Sprague.
Millicent Ames, the first daughter of Anthony Eames below married, in 1635
at Charleston, Ma., William Sprague which would indicate a closeness between
the Eames an Sprague families.

Anthony Eames, the fourth child and third son of Thomas and Millicent Brewster Eames, was born ca 1595 at Fordington St. Georges and died in 1686 at Marshfield, Ma. He married, ca 1615 at Fordington St Georges, Margery Prisse who was born in1599 at Fordington St. Georges and died 1662 at Marshfield, Ma. Anthony Eames, after 1636+, was addressed as “Capt”. Anthony Eames.
Anthony Eames lived with his family in Fordington St. Georges as late as 1631; he was a church warden (a lay officer concerned with the secular affairs as well as a legal spokesman for the church) for the years for the year of 1622, 1627, and 1631. Some time after 1631 but before 1634, Anthony Eames with his family except his first daughter, Anna Eames, immigrated to New England. He was a proprietor in Charleston, Ma. in 1634. His wife Margery is of record of being admitted to the church at Charleston on 13 Sept. 1635. Sometime afterwards, Anthony and his family removed to Hingham, Ma. where, in 1636, he owned a house lot in Hingham on the Lower Plain. From the time of his arrival in Hingham, Ma., Capt. Anthony Eames appears to have been one of the foremost citizens there. He was admitted as Freeman on 09 March 1637. He was Hingham’s representative to the General Court in 1637 thru 1639 and again in 1643 thru 1645. He was a lieutenant of the military company; when he was chosen to be captain of said company, a serious controversy developed between his friends and others in the community. This friction extended for many years. On 12 June 1643, the town granted permission to Anthony Eames, Samuel Ward and Bozoun Allen for developing and operating a corn mill for the town. As corn was both the principal crop and a form of currency, the operation of the corn mill was essential for the community and a profitable endeavor.
Captain Anthony Eames, with his family, lived in Hingham, Ma. until about
1650 at which time they removed to Marshfield, Ma. Anthony, together with
his son, Mark, bought a house and land there on 10 Dec. 1651. Capt. Anthony
was Deputy from Marshfield to the General Court at Plymouth for the years
1653 thru 1658 and again in 1661. He was a member of the Council of War. He
served, for many years, as Moderator in the town of Marshfield, Ma. Anthony
and Margery Prisse were parents of eight children, three sons and five daughters.
The first son, John, baptized 24 Jan. 1619 in Fordington St. Georges died
unmarried in Hingham in1641. Daughter Anna, below, had married William Ford
in England. Then remaining children all married and had families in Massachusetts.

Anna Eames, the first child and daughter of Capt. Anthony and Margery Prisse
Eames, was born ca 1616 at Fordington St. Georges, Dorchester, Dorset, England
and died 01 Sept.1684 at Marshfield, Ma. She married, ca 1632 at Fordington
St. Georges ??, William Ford who was born in 1604 in England and died 23 Sept.1676
at Marshfield, Ma. The wife of William Ford, who died in 1676 at Marshfield
, has been somewhat of an enigma for years. The records have always shown
his wife to be “Anna” with no surname; different genealogists
have suggested two or three different surnames. Referring to “Massachusetts
and Maine Families” V1:Pg 565 by Walter Goodwin Davis, we find a very
convincing rationale for “Anna daughter of Anthony Eames” being
the wife of the forementioned William Ford.
