Our Bosworth lineage commences with one Hanniel-1 Bosworth who was born ca 159x and died ca 16xx at Boston, Lincolnshire. He married, prior to 1615 at Boston, (–) whose name and ancestry is unknown. The existence of Hanniel-1 Bosworth is predicated upon the repetition of his name “Hanniel”, a rather unique name, in the Bosworth family in New England. Our primary focus is one Dorcas Bosworth who married, in New England in 1648, Edward Clark. The name of their first born son was Hanniel. Dorcas was a sister of Hanniel-2 Bosworth who likewise named his first born son Hanniel who in turn named his first born son Hanniel. As such it is assumed that name of the father of Dorcas and Hanniel-2 Bosworth was likewise Hanniel. Dorcas and Hanniel-2 Bosworth had another sister named Susannah Bosworth.who married Theophilus Shatswell in 1650 and died in 1672 in Haverhill, Ma..
Hanniel-2 Bosworth, son of Hanniel-1, was born ca 1615 in Boston, Lincolnshire
area according to his disposition made in 1681. We learn, from the records
of a lawsuit tried in 1645 in Ipswich, Ma .the following cogent information.
In 1638 a Mr. John Whittingham of Southerton, Lincs. was contemplating a removal
to New England with his mother. Mr. Whittingham negotiated with a number of
young men, in the area of Boston, Lincs,, to come to New England with him
as apprentices. They were to serve ten years in exchange for their passage
and resulting living expenses. After arrival in New England, some of the apprentices
served their ten years and went on to other endeavors. Hanniel-2 Bosworth
was one of these apprentices and remained in the service of John Whittingham
and he was a witness to the John Whittingham’s will in 1648. Hanniel-2
was one of only four people, outside the immediate family, to receive a legacy
from this will. There is much more information available re Hanniel-2 Bosworth;
however, the above documents the English origins of Hanniel-2 and likewise
of Dorcas Bosworth.

Clark who was born 11 March 1622 in England and died 19 Dec. 1710 at Portsmouth,
NH at 88 years of age. The name of his parents and the location of his birthplace

It is to be noted that there is no known relationship between our Bosworth lineage and that of immigrant Edward Bosworth who came to New England, with his family, in the spring of 1634 and settled in Hingham, Ma.. An interesting coincidence is that Edward Bosworth came on the ship “Elizabeth and Dorcas”; the name Dorcas is rather unique and this dual usage of the name, i.e., the name of the ship versus our ancestor “Dorcas” Bosworth, does catch your attention.
